Sam traveled to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge with the chair of his board. We were joined by Stan Senner.
Stan is executive director of Audubon Alaska.
We specifically visited the coastal plain of the Refuge, the portion targeted for oil exploration. It is a small
portion of the 20 million acre Refuge. The purpose of the trip was to witness the place so fiercely fought over in
the halls of Congress. For those of us used to the hills, trees and seasons of the lower 48, it is a foreign
landscape. But it is incredibly beautiful, and very wild.
