INDEX / NEXT This northern strip of land, the so called coastal plain, is very flat. As the rivers pour out of the mountains, they fan out without obstruction. This shot was taken from the window of the airplane on approach into Deadhorse. Deadhorse is the commercial center of the region as its air strip serves the Prudhoe Bay oil field.
