Date: September 2001
Destination: Northern Gulf Islands and BC's Central Coast
Sam spent a week in late September touring the northern Gulf Islands of British Columbia and the central coast
of the province, often called the Great Bear Rainforest.
He attended a conference on Cortes Island, which was a challenge to reach. Departing by car at 6:00 am, he
arrived near 7:00 that night after driving on the mainland, taking three ferries and driving across three
separate islands. After the conference he returned to Vancouver where he switched to planes and boats for
accessing the coastal rainforest.
