INDEX / NEXT Bahia Magdalena is a breeding and calving area for the California gray whale. Each winter, the whales migrate south from the Arctic to this place. We ventured out in the zodiacs to get some close up views. With Finley comfortable in Lindsey's lap, we came within several feet of several mother and calf pairs. One mother swam quietly directly under our boat. Some of our friends in another boat had a special treat. A mother poked her nose out right at the boat's side. All aboard were able to scratch her skin.
